Science & Intuition

The true scientific study of nature leads to one conclusion: a supernatural designer is responsible for all of it.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

We recognize design when we see it. Is there science behind this intuition?

Have a look at the following pictures.

Which one of these rock formations required the intelligent intervention into nature?

We know the formation in the second image could have been done by an intelligent agent. They simply could have spread some stones on the ground and taken the photo. It is also possible, however, in fact, highly likely, that it was created by the forces of nature. Water and gravity working in concert can certainly cause stones to spread out and settle so that there is no more potential kinetic energy left in the stone/earth system. This system has reached maximum entropy.

The formation in the first image could have been done by an intelligent agent. It is not possible, however, that natural forces created that formation of stones in the first image. We know, intuitively, that a rock cairn requires an intelligent agent to work against the laws of nature to balance rocks upon one another.

But how do we know that?

Douglas Axe, in his book, Undeniable, discusses the science that backs our intuitive ability to discern the designed from the chaotic.

I encourage you to listen to his lecture based on that book. It is available on YouTube, here:

More and more, as time moves forward and our knowledge of the world around us increases, we realize that abiogenesis and evolution are dumb as rocks.

He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”

Luke 19:40 (ESV)

Cry out, they have! With increasing perception of nature around us, our faith in the Bible and the God of the Bible is strengthened.

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Romans 1:20 (NIV)

Even our trust of science increases, because the truest pursuit of knowledge leads to one conclusion: there is a supernatural creator, and that He is the God of the Bible. Science, the Bible, and our own experiences with a personal God lead us to stronger and stronger faith.

And it’s all good news!

You do not have to be afraid of science.

You do not have to be afraid of God.

It is good news, indeed, that the God of the Bible cares about us, and wants us to experience all the peace and joy we can attain according to His design laws of the universe, including the foundational law of love.
